January 8, 2021 – Our nation’s capitol was literally under siege on the Holy day of Epiphany, January 6. What was supposed to be a Christian Holy day to celebrate the revelation of God incarnate as Jesus Christ, we have Trump supporters donning Trump flags, horns, hate-filled anti-Semitic messages on their shirts, elevating the work of Hitler against the Jews, and pushing the tenets of the Confederacy as if it is something to be revered. In fact, the last time the nation’s Capitol was under siege, was in 1814 when the British attacked and burned it and other public buildings – trying to overthrow the burgeoning American government. So how could this happen in 2021, over two hundred years later in a well-educated, media-savvy nation such as the United States?
The buck stops at the foothold of the “inciter-in-chief”
The blame for this attempted coup of Nazi supporting, white-loyalist degenerates, lays squarely at the feet of Donald Trump. Not only has he urged them on for weeks on social media, he has “lovingly” embraced this crowd of lowly educated and grievance-driven myrmidons. For four years he has courted them, groomed them, and fed them lies about the establishment which they have voraciously consumed. As he once said, “I love the poorly educated” – boasting that they love him too – means that he has conned them to do his bidding – the end result of this elaborate con was exhibited to the world on Wednesday.
How could anyone believe that all the states conspired to conduct a fraudulent election?
Because our ‘president’ had aiders and abetters, such as Rudy Giuliani, the once revered former mayor of New York during 911 – Giuliani’s participation in the “fraud-peddling” campaign gave credence and legitimacy to impressionable and gullible Trump supporters that the election was “stolen” from their candidate requiring them to “right the wrong.” Not only did Giuliani use his posture as a former mayor to validate Trump’s claims – he incited Trump supporters to violence by urging them to engage in “trial by combat” to overturn the election. At minimum, Mr. Giuliani should be disbarred as breaching his sworn oath as an an attorney, an officer of the court to uphold the rule of law and the Constitution of the United States. He along with his cohort attorney Sidney Powell, and disgraced general Michael Flynn urging military action should all be prosecuted for inciting violence at the Capitol, along with master-mind and inciter-in-chief, Donald Trump. These people are responsible for inciting violence, and sedition staging an attempted coup against the government and lawmakers while inside the Capitol. They engaged in treasonous behavior against the United States and lawmakers. Some of the Trump supporters were donning zip-ties which could be assumed were to be used against lawmakers who aimed to certify the election – notably Vice President Pence.
“Sedition” is the “incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority,” according to Merriam-Webster.
But for Trump, Giuliani’s & Others Propagating False Conspiracies – Many People at Capitol Would Not Be Dead Today
It is no surprise that homicides occurred inside the Capitol was a direct result of Trump and his abettors’ behavior. It is also no secret that Trump urged his supporters to the Capitol to do his bidding, as he gave them a “pep-talk” just before they journeyed to the Capitol. In his instructional announcement, he told them they must be strong – as weakness will not get the election overturned. He told the crowd of supporters “you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength.” Trump’s directorate sent thousands of his supporters marching to the Capitol to overpower any law enforcement and engage in mayhem.
It is clear, his words created a clear and present danger to lawmakers at the Capitol – including Vice President Mike Pence who was the subject of his ire for not agreeing to turn the election proceedings in Trump’s favor. At the time of the insurrection, VP Pence and other lawmakers were embroiled in the ministerial task of counting votes of the electoral college to certify the election for the incoming president – Joe Biden. The mild-mannered VP came under attack when he defied Trump’s insistence that he reject the electoral votes and substitute Trump as the victor.
Both Giuliani, and Sidney Powell, another lowly attorney begging to be disbarred for outrageous lies and deceptions on non-existent wide-spread voter fraud, have had their petitions for relief to over-turn the election denied in over 50 courts around the nation – including the US Supreme Court. Because of their meritless claims and deceptions, it is now fitting that Powell is now being sued by Dominion Voting Machines as she has continually defamed them, claiming their voting machines were compromised, without any evidence to back-up her outrageous statements. It is these kinds of lawyers that give upstanding attorneys a bad name, and those involved in putting forth these bad-faith and contrived complaints, must be held accountable. As a lawyer myself, we are scrutinized for character as representatives of the law and officers of the Court – these two are an embarrassment to the profession. Yet, unfortunately, they are not alone.
Senators Hawley and Cruz Continue the Charade Amidst Death & Destruction at the Capitol
Not only did Donald Trump con his supporters into believing the election was stolen from him – but he had help from GOP Senators Cruz and Hawley. Both men are attorneys, they know the facts and the law, yet they pretend facts don’t matter and the law is there for them to flout and break. By Trump purveying his false claims of election voter fraud – he set in motion a mechanism for others with presidential ambitions of their own – like Cruz and Hawley, to try to move the base to their own personal camps – even after a deadly siege at the Capitol. That siege took the lives of four people in addition to the homicide – murder of Brian D. Sicknick, a war veteran and Capitol Police Officer. Have these men have no shame…?
So what did this insurrection by a group of home-grown terrorists accomplish? They sealed the fate of Donald Trump in the history books as a president who has flouted the rule of law, incited violence against his own vice-president, incited sedition and insurrection – all because he couldn’t face the fact that intelligent and well-informed people didn’t vote him in as their next president. It is without a doubt his lawless action will go down in history making Trump the most contemptuous president this nation has ever had, replacing the legacy and restoring dignity to the once marred presidency of Richard Nixon. Although Nixon was responsible for a burglary at the Watergate Hotel and the DNC Headquarters to further his election edge – he was not a seditionist ready to overthrow the government. For that, and to those brave Republicans who urged Nixon’s resignation – we now look back with a kinder eye to this chapter in American history. We appreciate those who stepped up to preserve the integrity of the office of the President – they are the true American Patriots.
