Our Oceans-Our Survival-One Earth-Part 2 of 2 [Interview: Co-Chair IPCC, Member Nobel Prize Winning-Climate Change Panel]

Part 2 of  2 Part Series: Our Oceans-Our Survival-One Earth, You Won't Want to Miss!

Guest: Dr. James J. McCarthy, Ph.D., Alexander Agassiz Professor of Biological Oceanography at Harvard University, and Former Director of Harvard’s Museum of Comparative Zoology, and Head Tutor for Environmental Science and Public Policy. He is the recipient of numerous awards including: the New England Aquarium’s David B. Stone Award (2005) for distinguished service to the environment and the community, and the Museum of Science’s Walker Prize, which recognizes “meritorious published scientific investigation and discovery” (2008).

His National and International accomplishments include:

Co-chair of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the board chair of the Union and Concerned Scientists, and was appointed by President Barack Obama to the U.S. Arctic Research Commission. In 2018, he was awarded the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement for his efforts.

Part 2 of 2: Dr. McCarthy shares with us the state of our oceans and its importance to our own survival: from the glaciers in Greenland to the ice shelves in Antarctica–melting in the poles has been unprecedented on the past decades with no end in sight. He will dispel the myths of whether melting is actually occurring and why. Melting of the polar regions is not a new phenomenon–yet the rate of melting is unprecedented. Also discussed: acidification, carbon, disappearing ice shelves and coral reefs, and extinction of key marine populations essential to the biological health of our seas--include drilling for black gold–how both drilling and pollution affects the biology and chemistry of our oceans–and the marine populations that inhabit it. This is one program that everyone who cares about preserving our great oceans–and ultimately ensuring our own survival must see!

If you care about the planet, and care about quality of life on it--or even if question climate change, this is one program you wont want to miss!
